Features
- Note: OraPub is always looking for good data to use for R&D and training. If you would like to donate production system data gathered from this script for this purpose, OraPub will create the forecast model for you, validate, calibrate, and present the results all in an Excel spreadsheet. In the US, this will also include a conference call to discuss the results. If you are interested in this, just email support at orapub.com for details.
- This is a simple data collection script written for Linux, but it can easily be modified for other platforms. If you look closely, you’ll discover it not only collects CPU and IO activity, but also a few general Oracle workload statistics. The script creates output files for each collection area: CPU, IO, and Oracle data. Each file is in comma-delimited format, so it can be easily loaded into Oracle or a spreadsheet program for processing and analysis.
- How to use this tool in real life is presented in our Oracle Forecasting and Predictive Analysis class and also in Mr. Shallahamer's book, Forecasting Oracle Performance.
- V1.2 - Changed the name of the Oracle workload temporary file to include the sequence number and an extension. This ensures if the script is implemented via cron, the current execution does not remove the previous execution's work file and mess up the collected stats.
