Description

The dream of ubiquitous computing is beginning to become a reality with the birth of a new industry known as Grid Computing. Unbeknownst to most people, there is a growing and frantic fight for dominance in the blossoming grid industry. This is producing significant confusion, in large part because there are many applications for grid computing and many companies have a different market focus, the industry is viewed as a single entity, and there are numerous academic forces involved. There are also some daunting challenges ahead, with security at the forefront. Where Oracle shines is their strong history of reliability, availability, and security. Real Application Cluster technology is being enhanced and spun into a robust grid solution. If Oracle can market and price their grid solution attractively, it will be a big winner for large, data centric, secure, and highly robust grid applications.
